The Light of the World Retreat is boldly Catholic, and it is completely faithful to the magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.

Like many retreats, the talks include testimonies from the speakers. However, unlike many retreats, the talks and other content also include catechetical teaching. We want to lead people into a genuine experience of Christ within the Catholic Church because that is where He is most truly present.

Also, conversion is not only an emotional experience, nor is it solely an intellectual one. That's why the Light of the World Retreat balances testimony and teaching to give retreatants the opportunity for a genuine conversion of both heart and mind.

Kerygmatic

x

To be honest, the Light of the World Retreat has no "secret ingredient." It’s about helping your parish tap into the tried and true method of evangelization that the Lord Himself has established: the kerygma.

Not to be confused with the word "charismatic," Light of the World is a "kerygmatic" retreat, which means that its foundation and heart is the kerygma, the basic gospel message: (1) God loves us, (2) sin separates us from God, (3) Jesus reconciles us to God, and (4) through the power of the Holy Spirit we must personally accept God’s free gift of salvation in Jesus.

The kerygma has always worked and it always will work because it’s the power of the gospel. It will always be relevant. It will never need an upgrade or a makeover. It simply needs to be preached in the power of the Holy Spirit. The goal of the Light of the World Retreat is to invite each retreatant into this personal, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ within the loving embrace of the Catholic Church.

Parish-Based

x

This retreat is born, raised, and run in your parish. Don't wait for the "experts." They're already in your pews, they just don't know it yet.

When your people encounter Jesus, we'd prefer it if they met Him at your parish instead of "out there" at a Protestant church or other place. It solidifies their conviction that Jesus is present in your parish community. This retreat can be implemented by any parish, anywhere. It's run by your own parishioners, under the guidance of the Pastor. Most of the talks and leaders are lay men and women from your own parish. It's held at your own parish's facilities, and retreatants return home every night to spend time with their families, sleep in their own beds, and return refreshed and ready the next day. Holding the retreat on the parish grounds reinforces the reality of parish as family and church as home.

Sacramental

x

Retreatants access the storehouse of graces that are available to them in the Church through a renewal of the Sacraments during the Light of the World Retreat weekend.

How many of us received the sacraments when we were young, only to drift away from the Church over time? Yet it is precisely in the sacraments that we encounter Jesus most directly and completely. What a tragedy that such treasures of grace go untapped! The Light of the World Retreat helps retreatants access that storehouse of grace that's been waiting for them in the Catholic Church through the renewal of the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Authentic

x

Videos and other media can be effective. But we like to unplug and go old school with person-to-person evangelization.

Many retreat and evangelization programs use videos and other media to present the gospel. While this can certainly be an effective approach, it's not the one that the Light of the World Retreat takes. No videos or other multimedia presentations. All talks and testimonies are person-to-person and heart-to-heart. Your own people will be equipped to deliver both catechesis and personal testimony to their fellow parishioners. This authenticity ensures that renewal comes from the inside out, through the power of the Holy Spirit working in the lives of the people in your community.

Effective

x

Simply put, this retreat works. It's a modern blueprint for the original evangelization method: the kerygma.

We hear from many parishes time and again how effective this retreat is. That's because Light of the World doesn't claim to use an exclusive method of evangelization. In fact, it's quite the opposite. We employ the original method of evangelization: the kerygma. No shortcuts, gimmicks, or tricks. This retreat is effective because it removes unnecessary "extras" and focuses on what's most central, most important: the gospel message and the movement of the Holy Spirit.

Achievable

x

The Light of the World Retreat isn't another great idea that's too hard to execute. We help your parish learn how to actually make it happen.

We can probably agree that there is no shortage of great ideas and effective evangelization programs out there. The problem is that those ideas often consume too many of our already limited resources, especially our time. But we don't just send you a program or a retreat... we send you people. Real people who will become your inspiration, your trainers, your friends. We also provide you with helpful online tools and resources to make the administrative tasks much easier.

Explore every step of the process we use to get you up and running, from onboarding to execution to follow-up...

Online Materials

x

All the retreat materials are available online, and customized "dashboards" for each member of your retreat team make life much, much easier.

No need to print huge binders that waste paper and take up space. You can access the retreat materials 24/7 online, on any device. We keep them up-to-date and optimized for your convenience. Also, each retreat team role has their own "dashboard," which includes a timeline of retreat tasks along with helpful tools, links, and resources.

Scalable

x

Whether your parish has hundreds of families or thousands, the model works. We can help you implement the retreat no matter what size parish you have.

While we recommend limiting the number of retreatants at each retreat, there's no perfect number when it comes to parish size. Small parishes are capable of implementing the retreat even though their participant base is smaller. And Since evangelization spreads exponentially, even the largest communities will experience parish-wide transformation. The approach may change a little depending on the size of your parish, but that's why we send you a team of evangelizers who now how to adapt the retreat to fit your parish just right.

After the retreat, small groups meet in members' homes on a regular basis for continued edification and growth.

While the retreat weekend is a powerful experience for people, it shouldn't stop there. To affect change on the parish level, retreatants need to continue to deepen their commitment to Christ even after the retreat is over. Light of the World provides a post-retreat small group program that encourages retreatants to meet on a regular basis in their homes for more prayer, sharing, and formation. In this way, conversion doesn't just remain a "church thing," but it becomes a "life thing" for them.

Integrated

x

The post-retreat small group program is fully integrated into the Light of the World Retreat, and groups begin to form during the retreat weekend itself.

It's not enough to merely suggest to retreatants that they should continue to live out their faith after they leave the retreat. That's why the Light of the World Retreat has integrated a post-retreat small group program into the weekend itself. To get the ball rolling, retreatants discuss schedules and availability on the last day of the retreat. From there you begin implementing the "Growing in Christ" sessions which are guided small groups for the retreatants hosted on parish grounds. Once they've finished the Growing in Christ sessions, they're ready to host the groups in their own homes.

Customizable

x

As long as materials receive the Pastor's approval, small groups can incorporate virtually any Catholic resource out there into the format of the group's meeting time.

Since each group is different, a one-size-fits-all format would not be effective or sustainable for all groups. Light of the World small faith communities have a flexible structure that allows for a wide variety of resources and studies. As long as the resources are approved by the Pastor, they can be used in the small groups. And as new resources are published, groups are encouraged to try them, which contributes to the overall longevity of the small faith communities.

Everyone you minister to is in a different place on their journey to Christ. You need a comprehensive process that is able to meet each person where they're at.

A retreat is not enough to reach all the people in your parish and your community for Christ. People are at different stages in their faith, if they have a faith at all. But there are so many programs and resources out there, it can get overwhelming. Which ones should you use and how should you use them?

We'd like to introduce you to a reliable and comprehensive evangelization process that your parish can implement to ensure that no one is falling through the cracks. It both engages those who are in need of conversion, and also helps keep everyone moving forward as intentional disciples of Jesus Christ. We'll help you discern which resources are the best fit for your parish, and we'll help you figure out how, where, and when to use them.

Grassroots

x

Evangelization isn't just for the "experts." All disciples have a responsibility to evangelize. We help you turn the "regular" Catholics in your own parish into evangelizers.

Parish renewal must come from the inside out, not from the outside in. We don't claim to have all the expertise or answers. We don't bring in a specialized method of evangelization that only "expert" Catholics can master. We bring the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit so it catches fire among your own parishioners. One day when you look back to see what started the process of renewal in your parish, you'll see the names and faces of your own people who gave their hearts and lives to the mission of evangelization.

Unique

x

Every parish is different, so each evangelization strategy shouldn't be the same. We help you craft a custom-fit plan for your parish's unique needs.

A one-size-fits-all approach doesn't respect the particular situation and demographic of your parish. Before implementing programs, we need to first determine what makes your parish unique. Then we can build upon its strengths and shore up its weaknesses to find the best way to fulfill the mission of evangelization in your community.

When parishes win, we all win. That's because your parish is absolutely crucial to the success of the mission of the worldwide Church. What kind of ministry would we be if we dropped a retreat in your lap and waved goodbye as we wished you good luck? So once we partner with you in this mission of evangelization, we're in it for the long haul. We'll be here to consult with you and support you until our organization no longer exists or until our Lord comes again!

We don't limit our support only to retreat-related issues. We'll help you wrestle through whatever tough parish evangelization challenges you encounter.

The primary gift we offer parishes is the Light of the World Retreat. But we'll be the first to admit that a retreat alone won't change the culture of a parish or bring about the renewal you desire. While we believe the retreat is a great way to start the process and the engine that keeps it going, you've got a lot of other moving pieces that need to fall into place. We work with hundreds of parishes across the country. We hear their struggles, what works and what flops, and what innovative ideas they're trying out. We love sharing all that we learn with you to help your parish in any way we can. Whatever your challenge, we're here to help.
