Fr. Jon Bakkelund
Ordained in 2011, Fr. Bakkelund is the Director of the Office of Divine Worship and the Diocesan Master of Ceremonies for the Diocese of Rockford. Fr. Bakkelund received degrees in Philosophy and Theology from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. He then studied for the priesthood at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. He obtained an STB and M. Div. from the Pontifical Gregorian University in the same city. Fr. Bakkelund then served as parochial vicar at St. Mary, Huntley. Bishop David Malloy assigned Fr. Bakkelund to further studies at the Liturgical Institute in Mundelein, IL. He earned an STL in Sacred Liturgy from that institution. During that time Father Bakkelund provided clergy assistance at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Crystal Lake, IL. Father is currently finishing up a doctorate on the writings of the late nineteenth century German theologian, Romano Guardini. Father Bakkelund serves as an adjunct faculty member for the University of Saint Mary of the Lake as well as a lecturer for the Archdiocese of Chicago Institute of Ongoing Formation and Diaconate Formation Program. In the Diocese of Rockford Father Bakkelund serves as lecturer for the Ministry Formation Program, the Diaconate Formation Program, and the Diocesan Theological Institute.
Father Bakkelund is currently the Parochial Administrator of Saint Peter Catholic Church, Geneva, IL.
