Awaken

Session 7 - Lordship

During the last session, participants were encouraged to make a personal decision to follow Christ. In this session, we want to help them see the implications of that decision in every area of their lives. The goal of this session is to have participants be able to identify those areas of their life, and to awaken the desire in them to hand over each of those areas to the Lord.

Preparation tasks

  • Recruit testimony speaker.

Agenda variation

  • This session is meant to feel like an interactive workshop. That’s why this session includes time for interactive brainstorming. This brainstorming activity should then be discussed further in small groups.
  • Why? You’re beginning to bring participants into discipleship. This requires them to take a real good look at their lives to determine where they need to let the Lord take over. Since this is a new concept, it helps to hear from others. Participants will bring up areas of their lives they want to give to the Lord that others may not have thought of.

Interactive brainstorming

  • Start by explaining the activity to participants. Make sure you have your dry-erase markers ready. Tell them that they can call out different areas of their lives they want to give to the Lord, and you will write them all down on the board.
  • You may want to give them a little help in the beginning by writing down a few areas up-front, before you start taking their input: relationships, finances, job, kids, entertainment, etc.
  • They can be as general or as specific as they like. For example, they could say “entertainment” in general, or people could say “movies,” or “books,” or “shuffle board.” You get the picture.
  • Don’t just write things on the board. This should have a very informal feel to it. Acknowledge their ideas, crack jokes, make connections with other ideas, and interact with the participants.
