Formation – Becoming Disciples
A retreat can be an awesome, even life-changing, experience. Regardless, all of those who attend a retreat must return to their daily lives. Mindful of this reality, Light of the World is not merely a retreat, but a complete evangelization process. The LOTW Process follows the example set by Jesus: first, invitation; second, encounter; third, teaching; fourth, sending. Jesus did not call to the apostles, introduce Himself and then send them out to evangelize others. Rather, He invited them to walk with Him and learn from him and then He sent them forth. Discipleship Jesus calls us to be to be His disciples. That is, we are to “be taught.” As God is infinite, we can never learn everything about Him or know Him completely. Rather, there is always more he has to give us. Like climbing an infinitely high mountain, we will never be done climbing, but as we climb, the view becomes more and more beautiful. Every day, our Lord says to us “come up higher!” Grow and Persevere Programs Following the Kerygmatic retreat, those who attended are invited to form Small Faith Communities. These “SFCs” are encouraged to meet weekly to pray, study, and support each other in their faith journey. LOTW also challenges participants to start/support/attend adult faith formation programs in their parish (e.g. Bible study, speakers). LOTW also recommends holding an annual “Rekindle the Flame” retreat for past LOTW Retreat participants. Further, it is recommended that a LOTW Reunion is held from time to time in order to reach out in love and support -especially to those who may have strayed. |
