Financial Needs of LOTWEM
Light of the World Evangelization Ministries (“LOTWEM”) is the national organization responsible for the promulgation and support of the Light of the World Parish Evangelization Process. LOTWEM is a non-for-profit Catholic organization operating with the approval of the Bishop of Rockford, IL.
LOTWEM maintains and revises the materials necessary for a parish to engage the Light of the World Evangelization Process. Representatives of LOTWEM go out to any interested parish and present an “Information Day,” which provides the parish with the information necessary to discern if the LOTW Process is appropriate for it. LOTWEM evangelizers put on the initial parish (leadership) retreat and facilitate the first couple of parish-based retreats.
In order to assist parishes in their continuing journey, LOTWEM maintains a website and publishes a biannual newsletter which provides new information and suggestions for growth of the Process within a parish. The LOTWEM staff maintains contact with parish representatives to answer question and help in any way possible.
LOTWEM is a fledgling ministry. It has only one full-time employee. All other work is accomplished by a couple of part-time staff members and numerous volunteers. Even our “paid staff” receives far less compensation than they would working secular jobs and donate much of their time, without pay. As stream-lined as LOTWEM is, there are always expenses, including:
• Development, revision and production of written materials (including, but not limited to the Information Day materials, Retreat Manual, Administration Manual, and Small Faith Sharing materials).
• Training of volunteers (e.g. Information Day Presenters, Leadership Retreat Evangelizers and Shepherds, Small Faith Sharing Group Mentors).
• Website development, revision and maintenance.
• Newsletter printing and mailing.
• Communication with existing and perspective LOTW parishes across the country (by phone calls and mailings).
• Un-reimbursed travel to make presentations at conferences and at parishes/dioceses that are financially challenged.
• Support of poor parishes (no parish will be refused any material because of inability to purchase).
• Payroll (and payroll taxes).
Light of the World Evangelization Ministries exists solely by the grace of God and through the generous donations of those who believe in its mission to preach the Kerygma, facilitate a (deeper) personal encounter with Jesus and invite people to make Jesus the Lord of their life. LOTWEM operates on prayer and trust – not knowing where the next dollar is coming from. Occasionally, there is no money to pay even the small staff payroll.
